How to remove light bulb casing

I unscrewed a burnt light bulb and the outer metal casing of the screw-in part stayed in the light socket. How do I remove that so that I can put a new bulb in?

Use needle nose pliers as suggested, or crush it inward and try to unscrew with a flatter ended pliers.

Yes, you can actually tear the socket metal and peel it like an orange until the lamp socket gives up.

To make this tedious job exciting and test the health of your cardiac muscle, leave the power on (nah, just kidding).

I think this is one of the main reasons this site has the disclosure statement on every forum thread just below the OP!

I'm with the needle nose guys. Works every time for me.
