How much distance should the vanity top and the electrical outlet in the bathroom?

I want to replace my vainty with a taller one, kitchen height. What are the rules on that?

No requirement to have a specific size vanity
Outlet could be right at the top of the counter, same as the kitchen
I prefer mine at least 6" or so up

Don't forget to take the back splash into consideration when placing the outlet. When I did the bathroom in our last house I added an outlet up high on the wall where the kids could not reach it. It turned out perfect because we could use those safety plugs in the lower one and the hair dryer cord would not allow the dryer to reach the bowl of the sink.
