How Many Recessed Lights SHould I use?

I have a 15x15 room with a fireplace that I want to accent. The room has 10' ceilings. I am thinking of using 4 6" can lights in the corners of the room, a ceiling fan in the middle of the room, and two fish eye adjustable lights to shine down on the fireplace.

Is this a good design? Too much for one room? What are the rules for the number of can lights to use?

How do I determine the placement for the fish eye lights?

I also want to add recessed lights to my hallway. Its 20x4 with 10' ceilings. How many should I use and how should I space them?

Thanks.
