What's also funny dude, is that the "DIY Chatroom - Ads by Google" on the top banner have links to hydroponic lights and indoor grow lights. The very title of this topic should be changed

WHY??? Just because you automatically equate this with drugs?
Are you aware that many places in the country call recessed light "pot lights"?

How to lay out recessed pot lights?

I recently designed and am installing recessed can lights in basement with (what will be) 7-7.5' ceilings. I asked lots of questions to local lighting stores. Suggest avoiding 6" cans.... too large with these low ceilings, they'll look huge! 4" cans really only good for task and spotlighting. 5" cans are a good compromise. 5" fixtures available at local lighting stores (at least around here) for $12-14 each. I'm impressed with build quality of these compared to those at big box stories (e.g. Home Depot). Trim rings are $12-55 depending on what you want. Space 5" cans 5' apart (2-3' from wall). I filled mine with 75 watt, 50-degree spread flood halogen bulbs (wide spread of light). They are almost too bright! Plan to use dimmers.

Good luck!
