How to isolate outlets from main light switch?

Hi folks!..Just bought a house built in 1989. The main light switch in the living room also controls power to all 4 oulets in the the living room....hate the setup. How can I make all 4 outlets "hot" regardless of the light switch position?...

The code requires at least one switch controlled receptacle or lighting outlet in that room. You need to leave at least 1/2 of one receptacle switched.

Tell us the wiring in the receptacles. It might not be possible.

They don't want people walking into dark rooms.

Notice what Jim said, and, if you haven't done so, go back and check both receptacles at each location. You may find that all of them are split, providing you with one switched and one unswitched receptacle at each location; an ideal situation in my opinion.

In the duplex receptacle, is one receptacle switched and the other powered all the time? If yes, keep the first receptacle as is. You will need to replace the other receptacles because they have side tab between the two brass screws is broken/snipped like in the below image.

In the other three boxes, only connect the constant hot, neutral, and ground to the receptacle. Cap off the switched hot.

That would be great if they were all split. I never thought of that, thanks for the heads up. Sounds too good to be true, though.
