how to install ceiling fan when no electical box

I want to install ceiling fans and the ceilings have no electical boxes. How do I install them. There is no way to run the electical threw the ceiling.

If there is no possibility of running new wires, you will need to install a surface mounted raceway EMT, or Wiremold. You will still need to mount a fan rated box to a framing member to hang the fan from.

I'm guessing you live in an apartment.

Call an electrician or your landlord.:whistling2:

Conduit, wire, permission from landlord, etc.

I don't know you and am not trying to make you feel bad or be a smart *ss.

Based on your 2 posts, it does not sound like you can handle this task. Call an electrician.

There's always a way to run the wiring, cal an electrition and he will show you how it's done.

You need a box to hold the wires and give the fan someplace to be mounted. Boxes can be added. But it depends on what kind of ceiling is involved. Wires will have to be run to it, presumably from somewhere else and involving a light switch.

When questions this simple get asked it's not uncommon to have people tell you to call an electrician. This is GOOD advice and should be taken seriously. If you get it wrong the wires could short out and start a fire. Or the fan could fall down and seriously injure or kill someone.
