how to get NEC 2005

I'm just wondering what options there are for consumers to get some sort of version of the NEC without spending a fortune? I just want to do a little work here and there in my home, it's not a profession so I don't want to spend $100-$200 on a book. What to do??? Is there a residential "cliff notes" version?

thanks I'll check that out. No print or save features makes it kidna tough to use. I actually found a copy of the NEC at my library. I put a request on it, I was surprised as most libraries wont let you take out such an item.

Yes it isn't friendly in that respect. I might just add without some degree of formal study and training interpreting the code is for the most part guess work at best. Things are a bit more complicated than just reading what one article might say, and not knowing the exceptions or other sub-sections that may supercede what you just read. There is a whole lot of knowledge necessary to apply the code articles safely and not burn your house down.

I agree with stubbie. The code can be misleading in that it may say one thing in one part, but your specific situation is covered in a different part. It is not a how to manual.

An untrained person is better off with a good residential wiring book.

I also totally agree.
