How do you ground a ceiling fan installation involving a metal box?
Here's my question: I have a metal box to be centered between joists on a hanger bar. My inspector has me uncomfortable about grounding metal boxes because I know he wants them grounded and he wants to see all that for rough inspection, but I don't know what exactly needs to be done... This box has one 14/3 cable coming into it and nothing going out.
So I have one ground wire coming in, I need a connection to the box... Do I pigtail a bare copper wire to the bare copper wire coming in PLUS put a pigtail on to connect to the ground wire for the ceiling fan (presumably green, I haven't bought the fan yet) OR do I need to keep the bare copper wire from he 14/3 long, wrap it around the box green screw then wirenut to the fan green wire?
Are both methods acceptable, or is one preferred, or is there something different I need to do?
