A jumper is just a piece of wire that connects two terminals. You can use any size larger than the minimum (specified by the thermostat manufacturer). My thermostat came with several short pieces of #16 wire specifically identified to be used as a jumper, but of course you could use any scrap of #16 you had laying around. Generally want insulated wire so it doesn't short against other wires in the case (you need to strip the last 1/2 inch or so to fit into the connection).
#18 copper wire is usually the size, but I think it is also made in 20 gauge. Hardware stores and the big box stores sell it. A thermostat jumper does not have to be very long. Maybe you could ask a friend or relative for a piece.
In fact, if you have any old phone cable laying around, it will work fine.
Or, if the lead wires going to your t-stat are long enough, and it has unused spares (as most do), cut off about 1.5" of one of those wires and use it.
