I am confused been looking every where but can not find information
I am adding a spur to a ring main, i have the wall chased out in a "safe zone".
I believe that regulations state that the cable must be at least 50mm below the surface or must have mechanical protection. As 50mm is in practical in this case, I am thinking about installing some thing like a top hat strip, I also believe that this has to be earthed, can any one tell me if this is so, and if this is the case how do i go about earthing it. Also am i right in using the top hat shielding in the first place.
Sounds like you are in UK. This s mainly a north American site. Our code requires 1.25 inches. Fished cable don't need this. It only applies to cable running through studs. Don't want someone to put a nail through the cable. If the 1.25 inches can't be maintained then we install the metal plate over the area so a nail won't go in.
