How to connect 8 #14 conductors together?

I'm working on the electrical for a hydronic heating system and the wiring for all the pumps and controls come back to one 4-3/4" square junction box. At the moment (as installed and inspected), there are 7 #14 neutrals connected by one large red wire nut. I need to add an 8th neutral to this bunch for a relay control.

Per the wire nut specs (from Ideal), they're rated for a max of 6 #14 wires.

What's the best (code compliant) method to do this?

Thanks!

Twist 4 wires in one bundle, 4 wires in another bundle, run a short pigtail between the 2 bundles and add 2 wire nuts. That gives you 5 wires under each wire nut.

I am not a fan of these, but they are an option.

That was my first thought - any idea if this is permissible by the NEC?

Thanks,

- Brian

As long as the box is large enough for the number of conductors.

Why not do it right and get a bigger wire nut as Darren said.

I didn't think any wire nuts were listed for 8 #14 conductors - any idea which manufacturer it is?

Thanks.

As I read the specs, the largest wire nut made by Ideal can handle 6 #14's; the largest wire nut made by 3M can handle 7 #14's. What am I missing?

I checked the Ideal B4. It can only take 6 #14s. Seems kind of small when 5 #12s can fit in a B2.

Found a catalog for wire connectors by Ideal. Page 20 has a chart for quick reference.
