how to change wiring in walls w/o damage?

I want to rearrange some wires in a wall and on the ceiling. Dividing up a big room into two smaller ones. Problem is that the wires are under drywall. No clear way to get at them. Tearing the walls and ceiling apart and putting it back together is a big drywall job. Is there any way to rearrange wires inside a wall and ceiling without tearing things apart?

In some cases wires can be disconnected and labeled as such, then just run new wires with fish tape.

Do you mean physically move the cables? What if they are stapled to the studs?

That is your big problem....they 'should' be stapled. If so, it can be a b!tch to get the wires out. I moved one 2 weeks ago....short distance.....3'.....I was lucky in that the staple was not too tight and I could pull the wire out....not easy.

Drywall is not that hard. In my personal opinion, it's easier to just cut some big sections out and do what you need to do with wire than try to pull and fish new wire. That is of course after you have verified that the wire is stapled and you have fireblocks in the way.
