How can I use my 12/3 w/G ??

I am wiring my workshop and have 50 feet of 12/3 w/ground that a friend gave me. I am mostly wiring 20a outlets and a few 220, 20a circuits. Is there a way I can make good use of this wires capabilities by sharing a neutral or ground or something ?? At the price of copper, I hate to just run it as 12/2 and "waste" the extra wire. Any ideas ??? And no...no ceiling fans or 3 way switches going in.

Yes. You can use a what is called a multi wire circuit. Two circuits sharing the same neutral. You will need a 20 amp 2 pole breaker or 2 20 amp single pole with the handles tied. So then you end up with two circuits instead of one.
