how big of a main panel?
 

i decided to do some of the electrical work on our house we hope to be building soon. i was looking at panels and have heard good things about square d. so i checked on the homeline models. i know i want 200amp, but what capacity? the one i saw has 30 spaces and includes some breakers. the house we plan on building is 2000 square ft. there are a total of 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, living, dining, kitchen, bkfst, laundry, garage and basement-one day to be finished. one day we hope to also have a pole barn. will 30 capacity be sufficient?

Have you completed a load calculation on your house yet? Depending on what is going into your house you may need more than 200 amps. It is unlikelyu, but you will not know without doing the calculation. I would put a 40 circuit panel in. Is the one you are looking at a 30/40 panel or just a 30 panel?

yes, it is a 30/40 panel.

Can't get much bigger than that.
