How to array can lights?

Hi everybody,
Another newbie question. I want to put a row of remodel can lights along a hallway. There is currently a ceiling light fixture dead center in the hallway, which I will replace with a can light. Can I array can lights on either side of the center can light with separate wiring branches leading to each side from the center? Or do I need a daisy chain?
Thanks!

Either way would work. The only downside to not daisy chaining them is that your "middle" can is going to serve as a junction box for all of the other ones since the connections will be made in it.

The problem is, depending on how many other cans you have, you're talking about using large wire nuts to tie all the wires together, and there could be several hots/grounds/neutrals for several cans. The box on a remodel can is much too small to have this many wires in it, so you're looking at a major code violation (box fill requirements) and a hazard (wires overheating in the box).

A better solution, if attic space is available for access, is to install an actual junction box large enough to accomodate the amount of wires you're going to use, instead of using the can as the junction box. The junction has to be accessible, so it couldn't be hidden if you're working between floor joists. If you're in the attic you could attach the j-box to the framing in a conspicuous location.

I'd daisy chain!

Thanks for this. Daisy chain it is.
