house built in 1975


Just bought a house and i saw that the bathroom circuit is on a 20 amp breaker,it is wired with 14 wire including the lights,what do i need to do the house was built under 1975 codes? Is this legal in Florida orange county?

house built in 1975


it was never code to allow 14ga wire on anything bigger than a 15amp breaker. All modifications must be done to the newest code.

Change the breaker to a 15 amp for your safety.

This never code, but it isa reason codes get changed.
Back in 1975 bathrooms could be on a 15 amp circuit. As people move in and hairdryer are used the 15 amp breaker trips, so the HO puts in a 20 amp cb to solve the problems, even though it was wrong.
Put it on a 15 amp cb or run a 20 amp circuit fo the outlet.
