Hoping to move bathroom light in ceiling above mirror

I have an old light in the bathroom ceiling directly above the sink that I want to update. I want to put a new fixture above the mirror . I crawled in the attic and saw 3 sets of wires going to box where the old light is. the wires are not long enough to get to the desired location. The old light has a plate with 2 separate wires and chains coming out of it, connecting to 2 separate hooks with ugly globes on the ends as the fixtures. I removed the plate to see what I was dealing with, and saw the 3 sets of wires (attic) connected to the fixture. can I just disconnect the old fixture, add a length of the proper wire to reach the desired location, and connect the new fixture?

If you want to patch the ceiling where the old light was --you will need to replace the box with a Junction box that is accessible from the attic.

Then, yes, you could add the new wiring for the sconce lights.

not possible at the moment sorry. I'm not sure if all three wires need lengthened? I ask because all three feeds are currently connected to the fixture. By connected I mean 5 black wires nutted together 5 white nutted together, and all the grounds connected.

Ok so I jboxed them and dropped the new wire, than connected the new fixture. Now when I turn on the power the light comes on when switch is off and tripps the breaker when I turn it on... I triple checked my connections and they are sound. What did I do wrong??? Help

You splice all the blacks together and all the whites. It is a short circuit. One of the wires is a switch leg.
