Question

A (hopefully) simpel question about pulling through conduit

Hello

I'll be running electrical (24" deep, 1.5") and data (18" deep, 1.25")conduit (finally!!!!) to my garage in the next few days, and I was wondering...

What is the method for pulling cable THROUGH the conduit using a lead line (fishing line?) and making sure that there is still line left inside the conduit in order to pull future lines through? I may need to pull additional lines above any beyond what I initially bury, and I want to make sure that

a) there's room inside the conduit

b) there's something I can tie on to them to pull them through

Any replies are greatly appreciated.

You can just pull in another pull line when you pull the conductors.

Use brick string not fishing line. Mono will stretch when pulling.
As your pulling for the first time make sure to also attach the string to the wires your pulling. That will leave you a string to pull wires back in the opposite direction.

And have some help.
Among other things... to feed and push the bundle of wire as you pull it.

The pull string you want needs to be smooth. Masons string will cut into the insulation or pvc conduit on the bends.

Thanks all for the replies.

Just wanted to make sure I was doing it correctly.

I was worried that having an additional pull line might not meet some mundane code requirement or something like that.

Are you going to use a vacuum to suck the line through? How do you plan to get the initial string into the conduit?

I'll thread it through as I install the conduit.

"it'll never work"

borrow a fish tape... to pull a clothesline rope through...
tie the clothesline rope to the wires.

(after the pipe and fittings are all set and supported)
