Honeywell sensor C7089U-1006

There are two spare wires on the thermostat cable but Honeywell says not to use them for the sensor as it will result in erratic readings. They say to run a separate 2 wire cable just for the sensor. Is the reading variation great enough to offset the time and trouble required to run a separate cable.
