Is Honda Generator worth the cost?

I'm looking to get a new portable generator and a Honda was recommended. I would like a quality generator, but is it worth the huge additional cost? The first generator I looked at was a Generac 8000 watt/12000 starting watt, for $1299. The Honda EM6500S (6500 watt) lists for $2890 and I found a website where you could get them for $2430 with shipping. Should I get the Honda? Should I get it for list at the local Honda store or get it online? Thanks.

I have a Generac 7000EXL, 7000 running watts 12250 surge watts. I'm very happy with it. I have notice that the honda is not as loud while running. my Generac has been very reliable, heard the same for honda. if you can put up with a little more noise I would get the Generac and save a few bucks, if not go for the Honda. Another factor for me was that Generac is made in the USA.

Honda is quiet as generator can be. Reliable too. I have the Briggs and Stratton model 8000 watt. Nice machine with push button start. This is truly an economic decision. You are paying for the low noise and big name with the Honda. I bought mine for price and quality. It really is a choice. They are both good units and do what they are supposed to do.
Now, if you have a choice between a 3600 RPM unit vs a 1800 RPM unit and the price is close (I doubt it will be even close) by the 1800 RPM generator.
