Honda 3000is portable generator
Hi just purchased a new Honday 3000is portable genset. I was using an old cheap champion 3000 watt that worked well but was very noisy. My question is, the generator has a female outlet that is L5 30, My Honda Gentran Transfer switch in my house is a L14 30 connection. So I need an adapter that is L5 30 Male to plug into the generator and a Female L14 30 to plug into the transfer switch. I found an adapter for my travel trailer easy, finding one for the transfer switch has not been easy, anyone else ran into this? I realize the L14 30 is for a 220 connection, but we do not have any 220 circuits hooked up to our transfer switch, everything is 120. The Honda generator was not cheap so I would think there is an adapter especiallly since the transfer switch is also Honda.
As you said, the L14-30 is a 240V standard connector, while the L5-30 is 120V. That's because the generator is 120V only. You won't find an adapter because there's no way to make one without potentially causing problems in some applications. Since you know your panel is 120V only, you can easily make an adapter yourself or just replace the plug on the transfer switch with an L5-30. The method of adapting is simply to connect both hot terminals on the L14-30 to the single hot terminal on the L5-30.
