Homeowner needs advice re: replacing existing hardwired under cabinet lighting

I currently have 4 24" hardwired fluorescent under cabinet lighting fixtures that are about 15 years old. The plastic covers have cracked and I can't find replacement covers. I am considering replacing the fixtures with led as they are more energy efficient and generate less heat. I would appreciate any advice re: pros and cons of replacing florescent with led and if I should tackle this project myself or hire electrician. My electrical experience is limited to replacing switches and outlets.

Replacing a fixture is, in my experience, not overly difficult.

I have LED undercabinet lighting and am very happy with it. Unfortunately, I have found that light quality and quantity can vary greatly. Shop carefully, though, and I think you can find something you are happy with. While I don't currently see big energy savings with LED over flourescent at this point, LED can offer some benefits in compactness of design.

Thanks, if thats the case I may stick with fluorescent due to lower cost of fixtures.

My main complaint with LED lighting is the color, very white. At least fluorescents are available in warm white. And LED's are still very expensive, but will probably last a good part of your lifetime.

A few years ago I would have agreed. If one looks, however, there are available fixtures that have really nice light color.
