Homemaker---fan install

I am installing a hunter low profile 42 inch ceiling fan model 21880. The directions leave me with a half inch gap between the housing and the ceiling
Help. Can't see how to correct this following directions

If the fan rated J box is correctly mounted, flush to or slightly above the drywall surface, all should mount according to their directions.

You need to explain the situation you have that won't allow the proper installation of the fan.
Are you using the correct code proper fan box or are you trying to install it in the box the light was attached to?

Seems like you're not the only one with the problem.

This from amazon.com
This review is from: Hunter 21880 Low Profile 42-Inch 5-Blade 3-Light Ceiling Fan, White with Bleached Oak/White Blades and Frosted Glass Shades (Tools & Home Improvement)
This was a low priced item and we were less than pleased with the "fit and finish". It was labeled as a "ceiling hugger" and however, after installation, there was gap between the ceiling and the fan body. The canopy screws were also exposed. Most ceiling fans I have installed come with a plastic ring to cover the mounting screws and fill in the gap between the fan body and the ceiling. This one did not and looked "unfinished". I was pleased with Amazon service and the quick response to our request to return the fan.
