Home security installer recs in Boston?
We're looking for a reputable alarm system installer in Boston. We'd like to purchase our own equipment and have a licensed professional install it for us.
We're also considering having a local alarm system company evaluate our home and recommend and install the alarm system.
We would use an external alarm monitoring company.
Initially we had an ADT guy look at our place and give us an estimate, but we decided to check online first before signing up for a three-year contract, and have learned that there are much better solutions out there than what ADT offers.
If you could recommend an installer or an alarm system company that would be great!
Many thanks for your help!
Suggest you check out the various online resellers of GE Simon wireless alarm systems. DIY/self install and then contract with one of several monitoring companies - national or local.
I have had ADT for about two years and thus far they have provided excellent service. I own the equipment purchased from them. I believe I paid around $500.00 and got a second alarm for the first floor for free. They were running a special at the time. The installation was very proffesional. And we have the option to add smoke detector monitoring, fire monitoring, medical emergency monitoring and video cams. This is just my experience with them. It is possible you may find something better.
Some of the security companies (around the U.S. - not Boston per se) are bigger crooks than the crooks they claim to protect you from!
If you can, purchase all of your equipment and pay for the work without signing any contracts. Be sure they do not "lock out" your control panel and give you the key and programming password(s).
And have your monitoring done by someone else. Read EVERY WORD in any monitoring contract before signing. They like to lock you in for years and have automatic renewal.
Batteries for wireless devices cost a small fortune. I prefer a hard wired system myself.
As to interior motion detectors, there are passive infrared motion detectors which are prone to false alarms and then there are microwave motion detectors which are prone to false alarms. BUT there is a "dual technology" type motion detector which has both detectors built in and requires both to detect motion before sounding the alarm. These are the best and are not prone to false alarms. Of course they cost more money, but you get what you pay for.
