high hats issue

Hi
I have high hats in my kitchen that are 20 years old.
The bulbs keep going out after 3 weeks of installing a new one ( 5 ligths on same wire). Do I need to replace the housing with a new one?
I checked the wiring with an ohmeter and it seems find as well as measuring for 110 when on. all looks well. I installed a dimmer switch on them as well and even under lower amperage they still go out very quickly. any other ideas?
Thanks
Brian

what type of bulb are you using?

Your typical high hats lightbuld. They look like small flood lights

Are the bulbs burning out, or is the thermal overload tripping off?

Next time leave the burnt out bulb in for a while, and see if the light comes back on. Installing the wrong lamp in a can light can cause it to overheat.

The bulbs are out. you can hear the rattling when you shake the bulb.
The opening is a 4" opening and I put a bulb in that fits perfect. Are there specific bulbs for different types of high hats?
