help wiring exhaust fan w 2 lights AND a separate shower light into a 4 switch
Hello! My first electrical question, I'm moving over from the tiling section.
I have a new bathroom vent fan, with a light and a nightlight. It is all installed except for the wiring.
There is also a different line to the shower light, not connected with the new fan.
There is a four way switch on the wall. There was another fan I'm replacing, so there is wiring on this switch.
In the attic, there is:
1) The line to the shower (black, white, ground).
2) A line coming up from the switch (black, white, ground).
3) The power line, which has black, red, white and ground. It appears that both the black and red are hot.
From the fan comes:
A red and a white for the nightlight.
A blue and a white for the light.
A black and a white for the fan.
I can pretty easily snake new wires down to the switch if it helps.
Not to be too picky, but if possible I'd like the fan in the 7 o'clock position, the fan light in the 11 o'clock, the shower light in the 1 o'clock and the nightlight in the 5 o'clock. But BELIEVE ME, I'll take what I can get.
This wiring is driving me to the looney bin. Would really appreciate help! thanks, Taran 7
The black/red/white "power in" may be two separate circuits, may be on opposite legs of the electrical service -220volt! Use your tester to check line-line voltage, no reading means same side of line, but may be separate circ.bkrs - not good to mix.
From fan to sw-box you need three colors (red, blue, black) and only one white-you will make a common neutral splice for all lights.
Remember, if the fan is over a tub or shower you may need GFCI protection on the circuit conductors.
Do you have 4 single switches horizontally, or a quad switch with 4 switches in a single gang position ?
