Help! wall light fixture w/ switch

I am replacing a wall light fixture in my apartment. it is the type which has a switch built in to the fixture. i have wired the light and it works but the switch does not. what am i doing wrong? i tried reversing the wires.

note: although there is a grounding wire on the fixture it is simply attached to the mounting plate and does not go to a proper ground. the fixture before did not even have a grounding wire.

What your doing wrong is trying to wire up a light without first studying and understanding the principles of a residential electrical system. You can get fried or burn your house down if you do something wrong.

Tell us how you wired it. How is the switch wired in? Then we might be able to tell you what you are dong wrong. It could be nothing. The switch might be defective.

Woah ,, Did you say you are in the Apartment?? if so that can raise the red flag real fast you should get ahold of landlord on this first before you do ANY repair in the apartment complex.

the way you describing the connections on the lumiaire with the switch is wrong but right now i going to hold back for a min until you talk to the landlord about this sisuation first before anymore futher on this.

any damage to the wireing system the landlord will not be happy with it and it can do wonderfull damage [ i did see it this siuation alot ]

sorry to be blunt but you should ask the landlord first about this before you replace the lumiaire because the landlord will know what to do

Merci , Marc
