Help! Romex to a light socket, what to do with ground wire?
 

Sorry, I'm in the middle of the project and don't have time to do extensive Google Search. Hope I can get a quick answer from the forum.

I'm replacing the old knob and tubes. We have this outside light that basically is just a light socket hanging off of a metal tube that goes from the attic to the outside. I've taken the socket out by disconnecting the old hot and neutral wires. Now, I have pushed a 14-2 Romex through the metal tube and need to hook the cable up to the socket. There is not a ground screw in the socket. What do I do with the ground wire?

I would look for a suitable place to install some sort of grounding screw on the frame of the fixture, and connect it there.

Thanks. This is with a porcelain socket. I went ahead and bent the ground wire backward to tuck it back into the metal tube. If the inspector notices it and doesn't like it, I'll change it then.

Get a ground clip or drill and tap a 10-32 ground screw somewhere
