HELP! Please. how to wire a light, switch, then outlet

hi, 1st post! searched the previous threads for ever - and no luck

I have power through romex 14/2 to a pull light. I added a switch to it, from the light. in the original config, it was always hot and had an outlet off the pull light.

is it possible to have a hot outlet after a pull light that recieves power to a terminal switch????? and if so, any help as to how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

My Dad and I could not figure it out and i was attempting to sell the benifits of this site..... thanks so much in advance - hope the 4th was as good for you as it was for us-

Yes it's possible. The black wire going to the recept needs to make up with the hot before it goes to the switch. The neutral should stay the same.

That makes no sense.....to me.

Maybe this will help.

At the light, black= hot and white= neutral.

At the recep, black= hot and white= neutral.

At a switch (loop), white= hot, black = switch leg

If you are using one of those porcelain pull-chain type fixtures with an integral outlet it is not possible to accomplish your goal of having the outlet always on, with the light socket controlled by a wall switch.

My "interpretation" is he has a light and a recept already on a circuit. And is adding a s/p switch (terminal switch???) to control the light.

What do you consider a "pull light" to be?

I'm lost as to what are trying to do.
1. Is it power - light - switch - receptacle.
2. Is it power - light - switch and then light - receptacle.
I think you want #2.

But if you want #1 then
