Help needed on wire termination

I had a hard wire for an exhaust hood that I relocated to another section of the kitchen (the exhaust hood). I therefore had an unused wire... what is the best way to terminate this wire? I originally capped the wire by placing wire nuts on the bare wires and leaving in the wall. What should I go back and do?
Any help would be appreciated.

Is the wire still live?

Help needed on wire termination

I sold the house to another owner, got more savvy about electrical stuff and realized this could be a huge problem, so I would assume the wire is still live.
Wanted to make this right for the new owner...

You need to open up the wall, install a box and bring the wire into the box. Then cut off the ends so no wire is showing, then install the wire nuts. You must leave this box accessible.

Or, if you can find where the cable originates, you can disconnect it there and forget about the cable behind the wall.

If it were me I would contact the new owner and tell him what is going on and let him decide what he wants to do.
