Help me wire up new AC fan motor

My fan motor went out on me this weekend and I bought a new one yesterday. I have installed the motor and hooked up the wires to the fan to the unit it worked for 5 Minutes then threw the breaker. I tryed hooking it up a different way and it threw the breaker. I don't know what I am doing wrong. How do I hook up the wires for a Emerson Rescue motor 1/5 Horsepower RPM 1075. I can not figure this thing out.

Is this motor for the air handler fan or the condenser fan?

How many wires come out of the motor? What color are they? Is there a capacitor? (Usually an oval-shaped metal thing about 2"-4" long, with 2 terminals on one end). When it runs, does it hum louder that you'd expect? Does it turn the right way? Is there a diagram on the nameplate that lists wire colors, and one of them is labeled 'common', two of them 'capacitor', or 'cap', and the rest something like 'low speed', 'high speed', etc.?

I'm sure full of questions tonight, huh? lol. If it is a multispeed motor and power is applied across two of the speed wires, and not the common, it'll run, hum a bit louder than usual, and draw ALOT of current. Thus the tripping breaker. It could be other stuff though.

I did some extensive searching and found zip as far as even a wiring diagram goes. Listen to Rob, though. Sounds like a multi-speed motor application (and I'm guessing that it's your furnace blower) and you've got it wired incorrectly.

You'll want to rectify the problem before running it much longer though to avoid permanent damage to the motor.
