HELP - kitchen island receptacle
Hi All, I have new build kitchen island 72x42 inches. Currently I have 1 receptacle (GFCI) base on my understanding on the 2007 CEC (California Electrical Code) 210.52 (C)
(2) Island Counter Spaces At least one receptacle shall be installed at each island counter space with a long dimension of 600 mm (24 in.) or greater and a short dimension of 300 mm (12 in.) or greater. Where a rangetop or sink is installed in an island counter and the width of the counter behind the rangetop or sink is less than 300 mm (12 in.), the rangetop or sink is considered to divide the island into two separate countertop spaces as defined in.

Now the inspector said I need 48" o.c. between each receptacle all around the island including the drawer side...
Please let me know what you guys think.

Many thanks

Most of the inspectors we deal with require only one receptacle for an island. There are exceptions.

Thanks for the quick response. BTW the project is at So. San Francisco. and it seem that their interpretation is base on the same rule with any other counter space.

As clarification, is it an island or a peninsula?

Arguing with an inspector is like wrestling a hog in the mud the sooner you figure out the hog is enjoying it the better off you are! Six foot is a long island (most small appliances have an 18" to 24" cord) if there is a sink or stove in the middle add a receptacle at the other end if a continuous counter add two or if you have the space under the edge install a plugmold and let the load side of the existing plug feed it.

Thank you all for the input, so finally we put plugmold under the overhang counter and PASSED the final inspection...
AGAIN many thanks.
