help with installation of Honeywell RTH8500 thermostat

Hi, I have a heat pump with electrical furnace. It was working well until I tried to replace the old thermostat (31F3201) with the new programmable RTH8500. The wiring are connected according to the instruction from Honeywell Tech Support (old to new):

X-c; VR-R; R-O/B; F-G; L-L; M-Y; Y-Aux; A - not connected to anything.

The system is not working at all. This means that there is not heat and the compressor is not work. Any advice would be appreciated.

First....heat pump with elec furnace? Aditional heat strips to supplement the heat pump??

Gah! I HATE t stats!

In the olden days it was easier.

Electronic tstats confuse me.

What I do know is that there is a jumper or micro switch inside for "heat pump".

Find an AC forum.

Did you do the "Armchair" settings as it states in the manual to set the Thermostat to work with the unit, or just hook it up and put in the batteries? There are some settings that need to be set to have it work with the existing HVAC system, and they can be found in the manual.

Just in case you cannot find the book, it is
Also, Honeywell has a wizard at The RTH8500 is listed about halfway down the listings.
