is this a electric furnace or a gas? looking for a reset switch or the circuit breakers at the panel or the unit itself disc. Or maybe fuses may have been used. Check to see any are open. if gas, the igniter maybe at fault thats the weird thing right above the gas burner that gets red hot when the furnace wants to fire up the main burners. You can tell real easy if its bad , look at it real close and it should be a continuous loop w/ no breaks if its broken the voltage willnot go thru and get hot and ignite the gas when the gas valve opens, theres a thermo couple that tells the valve the gas is being used when it gets hot and willnot let the gas valve open if it dosnt.

sounds like the same problem i had with a gas furnace some years ago. I cant remember the exact details, but the HVAC guy was able to fix it by replacing one of the circuit boards in the furnace.

sorry i cant be more specific than that.

Some units will do that if the control transformer quits. Check for 24 V on the internal transformer, or check to ensure a control fuse isn't blown.

A bad thermostat is possible, but first, why is the fan running? Do you have the fan set to run all the time? In most gas furnaces the fan isn't turned on until the stack temperature warms up.
Does the furnace have a standing pilot or is direct spark ignition?
I had a Lux thermostat go bad several years ago. It was programmable model and I could hear the relay pick inside the thermostat but the furnace didn't light. Hooked up the old thermostat that I still had and the furnace fired right up. That's why I keep stuff, never know when you may need it. Of course my wife doesn't see it that way
