Heat from new dimmer?!?!
The plate where my new dimmer switch is installed is fairly warm to the touch.

By no means HOT, but noticably warm.

Cause for concern?

No, you are fine.

Reverse this statement:

By no means HOT, but noticably warm.
.....and you should be concerned.

You need to know the capacity of the switch as well as the draw. Most box store dimmers are low amps and if you are trying to pull a cieling array of cans there could be a problem. If I remember correctly, the box store dimmers are limited to 600 or maybe 900 watts.

"Standard" dimmers are 600 watts. The next step is 1000 watts.
Unless you ask for it or look for it you will get 600 watters. Actually 1k watters are not very common in homes. Some folks do use them for moderate loads to lessen the heating factor.

if you would bother reading the paperwork that came with it you would see that under normal operation dimmer may feel warm to the touch.
