Well, this is somewhat off topic for this forum but, does your laptop have in integrated HDMI port or are you using any type of converter box?

Is the laptop's HDMI output intended to output sound as well as the picture?

Is the app (program; application) you are running configured for sound, volume turned up, etc.?

Do you need to turn on sound and adjust the volume on a system app (such as a mixer) as well as each specific program?

Your laptop has a DVI output, or you do not have your laptop set up properly if it is truly a hdmi output, so that sound will also output on the hdmi cable.

As the other reply indicated. You most likely have a DVI connection or internal circuit from your laptop. Which will require a separate audio cable from the laptop to the TV or sound system to be able to listen to things.

Alternately you may have to take sound out of laptop headphones jack (small male jack like on iPod headphones) to RCA jacks (white and red) on TV, same device input as the HDMI video input.
