Hardwire a polarized plug

Hi,

Need help. I bought a hanging pendent lamp that has a polarized plug to hang where an existing chandelier hangs (the chandelier is hardwire). Is it possible to hardwire the polarized plug on the hanging lamp?

Thanks for any advice.

Probably not. UL has a problem when we cut the plugs off. That being said.....

You'll need to come up with a way to take the strain of the hanging fixture off of the wire, so the connections aren't strained. How you do that depends on the fixture that you're trying to replace.

Assuming you sort out the UL issue ... you can use a blank plate with a hole drilled out and use a strain relief grommet to attach the cable. You can get these in electronics stores like Radio Shack. I've used these grommets when building custom power supplies in the past.
