Hard Wired Smoke Detectors? What Year Required?

When was it a standard to have hard wired smoke detectors? Or is this something that is state by state?

Even if you are on the right track, you will still get run over if you just sit there.

State by state, and this is a building code issue, not electrical code.

Sometimes I feel like if I answer any more questions it is like someone trying to climb over a fence to jump off a bridge and me giving them a boost.
