I am attempting to install some new flourescent ceiling lights in the laundry room (fixtures are not heavy).
I took the old fixture down, and found a plaster ring attached to a 4 inch square box. The light fixture is designed for a circular or octoginal box.
I really do not want to replace the box, so I called up garvin industries and they had this part
The problem is the box is not flush with the drywall, hence the plaster ring that was installed before.
I am fairly certain it would not be code to just use this adapter and leave 5/8 drywall between the fixture and the box.
I thought about putting the plaster ring back up, keeping all my connections inside the junction box, and then putting this adpater in front of the plaster ring to hang the fixture. A bit unconventional, but would that pose any issue?
