Guidelines for installing kitchen high hats?

I'm at the beginning of a complete kitchen remodel. We've ripped out all the old cabinets and ripped up the old flooring. We're about to install ceramic tile and hopefully we'll have the new cabinets in soon (they will be standard height base cabinets, and ceiling height wall cabinets). While I'm waiting for my tile guy to put the tiles down (should be in the next couple of days), I'm trying to figure out the lighting. Current lighting is two Tiffany-style hanging lamps (one over the kitchen table, the other in the general vicinity of the fridge at the other end of the kitchen). We will be keeping these lights, but I would like to add some high-hats over the countertops. I did a Google search but didn't find any guidelines regarding how far apart the lights should be, and how close to the cabinets. The kitchen is galley-style with a refrigerator adjacent to 4 feet of countertop on one side, and about 12 feet of counter on the other.

So can someone recommend a general configuration for these new lights?

Thanks,

Steve

I reccomend a trip to the lighting supply store. They can show you all of the different options available. and can give exact details as to how the light will be reflected in the room.

Different lamps, Different lights, Different trims, all cause slight differences in the end result. You should take the time to go see these in advance of making a final decision.
