Grounding of Welding Generators

This is a "DIY Home Improvement Forum". How does oil and gas plant work fit into this???

If you are using one of these things in such a heavy industrial setting I would darn well hope you knew what you were doing before hand.

Are you in the US? I get the feeling no.

Grounding of Welding Generators

If the gen. output is V volts, if you don't ground the generator the voltage at either of its leads is indeterminate when measured with respect to ground.

With one lead grounded, the voltage at both leads is predictable; one measures 0v and the other measures V, when measured with respect to ground.
