Question

grounding for sub panel

hi i have a question about sub panels, i wanted to add one to my detached pole barn and was wondering if i ran 3 6's out to it and put a ground rod out with it i can then bond the neutral bar to the panel, and bong all the grounds and neutrals together right? And if i didnt decide to put a ground rod out there and ran three 6's w/ a ground i would not bond the panel and i couldnt land all the neutrals and grounds together?
Any help would be appreicated
thx aaron

You can do either (3 or 4 - wire) but you need a ground rod at the barn either way.

And I agree. I think I've seen this question before.
