Grounding a non-grounded metal blower
I have a blower (metal housing) that works fine except the 2 wire power cord has been damaged. I'd like to replace the old power cord with a new grounded power cord. The blower motor is currently grounded to the metal housing of the blower. Can I just connect the ground wire on the new power cord to the ground wire that is currently connected to the motor and metal housing? I will be touching the metal housing while the blower is being used.
Sounds like the neutral was connected to the metal housing before, which does not sound all that safe. Your Idea sounds better.
Ground from house to metal frame of blower.
neutral from house to neutral from blower
hot from house to hot from blower via the blower switch.
