I used to be in the Navy between 85-89, and my father is retired Air Force. He was a Radio man that was stationed in Italy, and Johnston Island, and was assigned to repair & man the old Radio listening Stations that where nicknamed "Elephant Cages", due to how large they where, and that they where shaped like a circular cage.
My dad always called them Elephant Cages, due to the enormous Size of them. One station dad was at, was also San Vito dei Normanni, and also Brazil. The other names that I came across in a quick search was "Dinosaur Cage, Elephant Cage or the Turkey Cage".
