Grounding a 2 to 3 prong adapter

Hello all! New here and totally new to DIY stuff in general. I have a quick question. I am sure my vocabulary is all wrong. Forgive me.

I have an adapter that turns a two prong outlet into a three prong (grounded?) outlet so that I can plug in a work bench light. There is a small metal green ring sticking up from the adapter and it says to, "connect tab to grounded screw." I have no idea what to do here. The fixture is up on the ceiling in my garage; I don't have a grounding screw, and if I get one I don't know where to ground it to. Basically, I am just lost.

That said, of course, everything works fine without attaching the tab to a screw. But I figure the label is there for a reason. What should I do?

Let me know if I can clarify anything.

If it is a light fixture, I would not sweat it unless you are spraying water at it and standing in your bare feet or something.

OK. Thanks. I figured as much. No one will be able to get near it, and it will remain nice and dry.

Thanks again!

That U shaped tab goes under the screw that holds the cover on the receptacle. It only works if the receptacle is grounded.
