Ground Rod Installation
I need tips for driving ground rods. What is the easiest method(s)?
I heard something about filling your hole with water as you go, but I only got part of the info--can anyone elaborate on this? (I need 3 for the house I just bought. 1 is for the generator. The other 2 is for the panel, which was only tied to the cold water.) |
Rotary Hammer and ground rod chuck is by far the easiest method. Water in the hole can help in some soil conditions.
A ground rod at the generator is debatable, if your transfer switch does not switch the dwelling service neutral then a ground rod is not necessary. Stubbie |
When you did the water and hole method, did you keep adding water while moving the ground rod up and down? I've done that with many since I don't have the rotary hammer set up. I usually get about 6 feet in this way, then finish with a sledge. If you do the sledge route, put your clamp on before smaking it...that way you don't have to fight the mushroomed head.
