Normal duplex outlets can be fed so that each of the two outlets can be fed separately (by breaking a bar on the side). A common application is where one of the outlets is always "hot" and the other outlet is switched (from a wall toggle switch) into which a lamp might be plugged. Question: Is there a GFCI available that can be wired in the same manner? Where can I purchase such an item and what would it technically be called?
there is no such thing as a split gfci outlet. The closest thing that you can get to it is by installing a 2 pole gfci breaker in your panel and running the regular split plug off it. Depending on where you live a 20A gfci protected receptacle may also be sufficient as a replacement to the gfci split(which is code on kitchen counters now). keep in mind that you'll need number 12's for the 20A version.
If they're duplex receps they do not need to be 20 amp rated in the USA.
