Generator out put
Does anyone know if a generator puts out if there is no load on it.
I think it should put out and as the load increases the out put watts increases.
Thanks for any help.

Watts are NOT output, they ARE load. You cannot have a load without a load, if you understand that.

The genset is putting out voltage just like your house service is "putting out" voltage. It's just there, not being used until you connect a load to it.

As Speedy said, if the generator is running, it is producing electricity. The same electricity as in your house outlets, with the same potential to kill you. I am always amazed by some of the things I see people doing with generators. There seems to be some kind of belief that they do not produce dangerous electricity.

Some generators do idle down when there is no load on them, in an effort to save fuel. At these times I doubt the voltage is at regular levels.
