715 KVA is pretty big unit { 715,000 watts }

Now with battery charging mode you should get a voltmeter and read in DC scale and with full charged batterys you should NOT be over 28 VDC anything over you will boil out the battery once you get into 30 volts the battery will boil out { dry out and it can be dangerous due the hyrodgen gaz }

How old the batteries are ? if more than 4 or 5 Years ditch them and get new one and please check the charger to make sure it is not overcharging if so you will either adjust the voltage on charger or replace it { if not adjustable charger }

You should get a full automatic charger with floating cutoff mode so when it get full charged it will turn the charger off until the battery voltage drop down a bit then kick it back on and it will cycle as need to.

With 715 KVA unit I know typically will have 2 or 4 size 8D or 4 Size 31 battery which it is correct for the unit this big.

And for stand by mode you should check the block heater as well { some will have thermostat as well }

If more question just let us know

I have deal quite few larger generators so I am famuair with it.

Oh do not run unloaded too long otherwise you will get wetstacking on diesel units { once the load is applied you may get afterburner on the exhaust or get hevey smoke for few minutes } Gaz unit do not have this issue but check the fuel system anyway.

Merci.

Does your unit have a battery volt meter? The voltage should be between 26-27 volts when charging. It may go higher if has an equalization charge. Your charger might have some adjustments if it is boiling the batteries. Check the manual for the charger.

trickle implies very low current, some milli-amps (< 1 amp anyway). if yours is truly a trickle charge, i doubt the batt electrolyte would evaporate. check with ammeter.
