I have a generator with the 194/23 N1/N2 connections for the transfer switch and the transfer switch has the 178/183 terminals to the generator. I have looked at a few newer model gens and they are equipped with both leads. The 183/178 looks to go the the start/stop switch to start the generator from the ats. The 194/23 wire from the generator appear to tell the ats to switch. I need to know if I can just rewire the start switch to the ATS so that the ATS controls the generator. I have a GTS "W" type ATS and a 16kw generac (52540).
Both the switch and the gen have a PCB and settings to control test runs, start up warm up, shut down cool down, and power sensors for switching. The only thing is the N1/N2 that power the charger are not set-up in the ATS. I will have to either run them through a fused connection or install a charger in the generator from a another power source.
I think I have a solution just need someone to confirm it. The generator will start with the loss of power to the N1/N2 input and the switch will switch once it sees the power from the N1/n2 loss and e1/e2 power supply active. By running a fuse connection to the generator I can stilll power the charger and it will also start the generator when the power is lost.
